The Holographic Universe Theory

For decades man has been coming up with scientific theories of how everything we perceive (see, hear, feel, etc) as human beings may actually all be holographic. However, due to the fact that the cosmological horizon has a limitation area that grows with time, cosmological holography has not been made accurately in terms of mathematics. The theory was originally inspired by black hole thermodynamics which state that all objects that have fallen in to a black hole can be held in surface fluctuations on the event horizon. The principle of holographics appear to resolve Stephen Hawking's known 'black hole information paradox' inside of the framework of string theory.

To make matters (pun not intended) more complicated Stephen Hawking, after thirty years of claiming that a black hole destroys everything that falls into it, recently announced that he may have been incorrect. The laws of qauntum physics say that such information can never be entirely wiped out. Hawking now believes that black holes keep emitting radiation for a long time until eventually they open up to reveal the information within. Coincidentally, this is what numerous supposed alien abductees have been claiming for decades and some, such as Alex Collier, claim to have been given many secrets about the universe and it's existence including the claim that we have had seven strands of our DNA removed. Alex Collier is certainly an interesting case whose information seems to fit in surprisingly well with information and artefacts that we have from thousands of years ago that we still can't make sense of.

Collier, amongst many others before him, claims that he has been told by aliens that abducted him that everything we perceive is holographic. The entire universe is a hologram. In fact many books and television documentaries have been produced on the subject as far back as the 1950's. The theory explains that the way that we encode images, feeling and sound in our brains is actually encoded into understandable data by our brain, not by our eyes. In other words we actually see with our brain, not our eyes. The light that bounces off objects (matter) is reflected into the retina which is then spatially encoded before the information is decoded by the brain.

It seems that the only reason that we can see, hear, touch and feel all real matter as we know it is purely because our brains are telling us to. In fact, the theory explains that even our brain is holographic, it's only our internal perception of what we are programmed to be aware of in the exterior world and therefore nothing really exists as we believe it does, not even our brains. Everything we see, hear, feel, touch and smell is not really there outside of our awareness.

So who is that person inside us? Who is it that is pre-programmed to think the command 'I think therefore I am'? Theories explain that we, as one, are the true creators of our own reality, it's the reality that we create in our minds and our true existence must be as souls or as part of some giant computer program or intelligent design way beyond our current intellectual capacity. Our physical bodies are not real. And if this theory is indeed true then it remains impossible to prove.

Although the holographic universe theory poses an interesting question, there are a couple of flaws that have failed to be addressed. Primarily, some of the information explained Darwin's dilemma and how he never found fossilized evidence of creatures going through the cycle of evolution. However, this is not true. Fossilized evidence of evolution was found several decades after his death though critics argue the evidence isn't strong enough. The second major flaw is the fact that the way light is reflected into the eyes in the first place was completely neglected which begs the question 'If there's no real object or matter there then how can the light reflect off it?'

One thing we do know is that our brain filters information. Everything we perceive, see, hear, feel and smell has been filtered through by the brain as data that we can use, information that is useful for us, to guide us. It is this information that we base our values and beliefs upon and this, for each one of us, is our own unique model of the exterior world. As explained in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) we all live in our own model of the world which is based on internal representations of external stimuli (pictures, sounds, smells, etc). Therefore it's still a possibility that there are things out there that we don't perceive, that we are not tuned into which in theory still makes parallel existence or existence on a higher dimension still possible. We are all pre-programmed to breathe, to yawn, for our hearts to beat, etc so what else are we pre-programmed to do in terms of perception?

I have been interested in the holographic universe theory for quite some time. String/M Theory really opened my eyes to how much we probably don't know about the world around us. I still don't understand the concept completely. However, your hub has inspired me to start researching this topic. Great post.

Excellent. I am a firm believer in David Icke's teachings. Great hub.

I believe that David Icke only reiterated these theories, as the hub says they have been existent since at least the 1950s from initial experiments from David Bohm and Karl Pribram etc. (Although I've never read any words of Icke, only from Michael Talbot's book The Holographic Universe - which is really eye-opening!)

It's bizarre to try and imagine the true nature of 'the world out there', of which its nature would appear vastly different to what is perceived by our brains.

Such an interesting topic; I'd like to believe the true nature of existence is indeed holographic and that life is far more flexible than we realise.

Thanks for writing this great hub. I hope it sparks up more conversation! Voted up and interesting. Looking forward to reading more of your hubs!
